On a very rainy October Saturday morning, over 70 volunteers arrived at McClure Elementary for Philly Cares Day, located in the Hunting Park section of North Philadelphia. YPN adopted this K through 4th grade school a few years ago and continues to provide volunteer support to the school, which started through a single volunteer day with Philadelphia Cares Day. YPN has since added a number of volunteer opportunities for its members to provide to McClure, including Career Day and a Spring Fling celebration for perfect attendance.
In past years, YPN has painted the hallways and stairwells shades of purple, blue and yellow. This year, YPN decided to add another layer of color to the school walls by painting a murals in the stairwells. We also repainted walls and doors in the school cafeteria and school office, as well as the the new guidance counselor’s office.
“YPN has really taken volunteer opportunities to the next level, by adopting McClure and concentrating our efforts to give the students a more physically attractive school to promote an increase in learning. We want the students to feel like this is a welcoming home and that they want to come to school,” says Christopher Parker, AVP at TD Bank and vice chair of the YPN Board.
