As part of YPN’s Professional Development Series, this seminar was focused on the best way to get on a non-profit board. Ms. Nancy Dunleavy, President and Founder of Dunleavy and Associates, moderated the seminar.

Some tips Ms. Dunleavy offered were: Figure out what moves you (this will determine which board is right for you), express your interest in being involved, stay engaged and take action. Young professionals often seek a way to fulfill a commitment to our communities- one of the best ways to get involved is to join your neighborhood association.

Panelists at the seminar included Ms. Jennifer Kastle Goudy, Community Relations Manager and Program Manager at TD Bank, Mr. Robert Padulo, President at iWorkwell, Inc and immediate past Chairman of the Board of Directors of Greater Philadelphia Cares, and Mr. Sean Kent, Vice President, Commercial Insurance at Johnson, Kendall & Johnson, Inc. The panelists offered great advice in terms of what to look for before joining a board, what kinds of organizations to be engaged with and how to find these organizations.

If you need some guidance regarding non-profit boards, Greater Philadelphia Cares has a board matching program to find the best match for you, based on your interests and talents. For more information, visit www.gpcares.com.

The next YPN Professional Development seminar, on March 29th, will focus on how to leverage relationships at the Chamber. Mary Austin of Tierney Communications, who is the Chamber’s 2010 Paradigm Winner, will be our speaker.
