YPN awarded its Volunteer of the Year award on Wednesday evening atop the 777 South Broad Residences. The Volunteer of the Year award goes to the YPN member who has demonstrated the true spirit of volunteerism throughout the YPN volunteer year. The winner receives $500 to donate to the charity of their choosing.

And the winner is…..Leonard DeProspo, Research Associate, Janney Montgomery Scott!

Outside of YPN, Leonard has been quite involved with Janney Montgomery Scott’s United Way fundraising campaign for the past four years.  In addition, he has been active with the United Way’s Project Next, Habitat for Humanity and Back on My Feet.

He is donating the $500 to Big Brothers Big Sisters.  Here is his account of his volunteer efforts with Big Brothers Big Sisters:

“My affiliation with Big Brothers Big Sisters began in October, 2001 in Washington, D.C.  I’ve been involved with them in some way or another, whether through donations, fundraising, or volunteering activities ever since.  In September 2010, I reached out to Marlene Olshan, who is the President of the Southeastern Pennsylvania chapter, to ask if she would talk about the program as part of our firm’s annual United Way fundraising campaign.  She said yes, and as a result of her wonderful discussion at Janney that September, the Beyond School Walls program was implemented in January of this year (it’s a program where the children are bussed to our building and spend an hour with us every other week).  The first semester was a great success and we look forward to continuing Beyond School Walls this fall.  I am also a big brother in the program.”

Congratulations Leonard for your volunteer efforts!

A special thank you to 777 South Broad for hosting YPN and to the ‘soon to be opening’ restaurant, Tashan, for the great sampling of food.

Hope to see you at the special joint GPCC/YPN Business After Hours event on August 17th at Lucky Strike!
