Volunteers with the Young Professionals Network brought their school cheer to McClure Elementary School on Friday, June 1 to celebrate the end of the school year. About 50 children were given a “fun day” with our volunteers as a reward for their perfect attendance and citizenship through this year. Citizenship, as one student described, is, “when you do something good in school and the teacher marks it down and gives you a reward.” And a reward is what they received.
The day started off with a greeting from the YPN volunteers, and then the kids were separated into groups where they participated in jump rope competitions, drew pictures with sidewalk chalk, had a water balloon toss, and danced to music provided by ESM Productions.
After a pizza lunch and more games, the students were called up one by one and were given their certificates and a gift bag provided by TD Bank. On their way up, they were congratulated by the volunteers.
This was another rewarding experience for YPN volunteers at McClure Elementary. Past events at McClure include painting a mural in their hallway, speaking annually at their Career Day, holding Parent meetings on a number of different educational topics, and holding a toy drive for the holidays.
