On October 22nd, the Young Professionals Council (YPC) held our second annual YPC Connect for Community Impact, this year convening in a virtual setting. During this hour-long event, we had the pleasure of connecting our members to 10 regional nonprofits who spoke about how the current pandemic has affected their organizations, and shared ways that young professionals could get involved to help them achieve their missions. This event, as it was imagined last year during the inaugural session, aimed to connect eager young professionals with community-facing organizations in four key areas: Youth & Education, Mentorship, Arts & Culture, and Vulnerable Populations.

Before hearing from the participating nonprofits we welcomed Diana Lind, Executive Director of the Chamber’s Arts + Business Council (ABC), who presented a keynote on the importance of volunteerism in the nonprofit space and gave details about some training and professional development opportunities through ABC.

The important of volunteering and supporting community nonprofit organizations, now more than ever, was made clear by Diana and the representatives for each nonprofit. These organizations, whose missions are centered around bettering life for our friends, families, and neighbors have been hit hard during the pandemic, not only in their operations and efforts around fundraising, but also in the support they get from volunteers. Many young professionals have the skills and talent to make a huge different for these organizations and we are hoping that any YPC member who attended this event was able to find a nonprofit to get engaged with.
