As a child growing up, summer was always a time for slowing down, enjoying the longer days, staying up late and sleeping in, and indulging in ice cream from the local creamery. With the hot and humid days rolling into Philadelphia, it makes me nostalgic and reminiscent of the ease of the summer months as a child, following a rigorous academic year.

As someone who works within the higher education sector, the summer months tend to be a bit slower and provide an opportunity to get to the projects that did not get done throughout the rest of the year. I enjoy this slower time because it gives me the opportunity to read more for leisure, catch up on time with my family and friends, and intentionally reflect without so much noise.

Reflecting on this past year as the Young Professionals Council Advisory Board Chair, I pause to think about all that we accomplished coming out of two incredibly challenging years:

  • We launched the Inaugural YPC Strategic Plan focused on building engagement with our members, infusing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging into the fabric of the YPC, and creating a sustainable advisory board model.
  • We hosted in-person and virtual events where 1,036 participants engaged, learned, and networked.
  • We welcomed 301 new members into the Council

While we are still working our way back to a full calendar of events and programs for our membership, I am certainly proud of how far we have come. The Young Professionals Council provides such a unique opportunity to learn and grow as an individual as well as to help to develop the Philadelphia business community. I am proud of, and so grateful to, those I have the privilege of working with on the Advisory Board for their time and commitment to the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia.

As my time as the Board Chair comes to an end, I have no doubt that the YPC is moving onward and upward and is in good hands with Siah McCabe, Chair, and Shawnna Williams, Vice Chair.
